IMG_2544 (1)Sustainable Economic Growth in the Dominican Republic: Cacao, Conservation, and Community

Participants on this Fair Trade Trip will travel to a beautiful cloud forest reserve where they will use cacao as a lens for understanding fair trade and how it works.  They will stay at the ecological reserve, where they will learn about the impacts of deforestation and what is being done to combat it.  Participants will take part in the chocolate making process from harvesting, to cultivating, to processing, and will be able to ask questions and speak with representatives at each step.  In addition, participants will experience the culture of the Dominican Republic, from the food to the arts, and more.

As in all Bridges to Community trips, the focus will be on true service learning, affording participants and Dominicans the change to learn, grow, and thrive from the experience.
