In January, nineteen IT professionals from the District of Columbia area were warmly welcomed by Las Conchitas community in Masaya as they began working together to construct two critically needed classrooms serving the children of six surrounding communities. The volunteers had made a commitment to not only to raise money for the school but also to travel to Nicaragua and physically start building it. Another group will complete it in February. read more
A Bridges to Community volunteer group from the DC area IT community raised a record breaking amount of money at the Fourth Annual “Raise the Roof” Cocktail Party and Fundraiser held in October. More than 150 tickets were sold to the affair and over $60,000 was raised by the DC group to go toward meeting their goals to fund the building of an addition onto a school in Masaya as well for new homes for Nicaraguan families.
Gordon Coyle just returned from his fifth annual pre-Thanksgiving trip to Nicaragua and wrote the following sentiments:
